OUR STORIES, MINE INCLUDED

Dowding’s latest project was facilitating therapeutic group art in the Ohio State Harding Hospital after a traumatic encounter with security officers in the Ohio State Emergency Department University Hospital. This occurred after Dowding voluntarily admitted himself seeking medical attention due to a medication-induced manic episode. These officers remain employed and power-wielding due to OSU’s willful negligence; both shall likely continue their abuse of patients and set the standard of acceptable treatment and behavior for other OSU faculty so long as this encounter remains unaddressed. The following images are scans of physical drawings, paintings, and writings completed by multiple patients, from March 14th to March 19th, 2025; the artists include Carol, Xavier, Mandy, Brenda, Karen, Margaret, Jim, Veronica, Habak, and Dakota. Dowding also spent time gathering qualitative data regarding patient care experience, areas of program dysfunction, resource management, and patient preparedness before departure from the Ohio State Harding Hospital.

LET’S BEGIN.

WHAT CAN WE DO?

Nothing.

There is no justice for me.

There’s no justice for the black man they dragged away. They will say that we were belligerent. They will say that we planned on hurting ourselves or each other. They will say that they were preventing something horrible from occurring.

The only danger in that building was those hiding within their uniforms.

The. Officers. Escalated.

My voice refuses to be heard by OSU. However, you can protect yourself and your community members. If you see something, say something. You shout it from every digital and physical platform you have. You get badge numbers, you spam Patient Advocacy and Compliance and Integrity, you take photos, you keep digital and physical records. You look into every camera and the eyes of the nurses who will listen.

YOU SAY YOUR NAME.

An unknown nurse, who challenged the officer’s definition of compliance vs cooperation and prompted the departure of the second officer.

Victoria, the angel nurse who looked me in the eyes, explained what was happening next and gently helped me reach my next destination.
